About HeadphoneRanker

HeadphoneRanker compares 125 headphones from 46 brands on driver type, form factor, noise cancelling, battery life and connectivity — laid out so you can filter to the handful that fit how you actually listen.

Why compare on specifications at all

Sound is subjective and we are not going to pretend a spec sheet settles it. What a spec sheet does settle is everything around the sound: whether a pair is open-back and therefore unusable on a train, whether the battery survives a long-haul flight, whether it does multipoint so it can hold your laptop and phone at once, and whether the noise cancelling is active or just the passive seal of the earcups. Those decide most purchases, and they are comparable.

Drivers, codecs, and which revision the spec belongs to

Driver type and size, impedance, weight, battery life, codec support and noise-cancelling type come from each manufacturer's published specifications for the specific revision — which matters in a category where a model name is often reused across generations with different internals.

Owner insights come from long-form listener discussions, weighted toward the things that emerge with time: clamp force on a long session, how the earpads wear, and whether the companion app is a help or a liability.

Who is behind this

The whole staff is two people. Nobody here owns a head-and-torso simulator, so there is no frequency-response curve on this site that we generated — where a measured curve is referenced it belongs to a named rig run by somebody else and is credited to them. Battery figures are reproduced as the manufacturer's claim, with the noise-cancelling-on condition noted when a brand states it and left unqualified when it does not. If a brand will not say which codecs a model supports, or quotes a driver diameter without saying whether it is the dynamic driver in a hybrid array, the field stays blank rather than being filled in from the previous generation.

What no headphone brand can buy here

Buying through some of the links here pays us a commission and costs you nothing extra. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. No brand pays for placement, a rating, or the removal of a criticism. Several of the studio and audiophile names that do well here sell chiefly through specialist dealers we earn nothing from.
